Iran’s Revolutionary Guard says reopening the Strait of Hormuz is unrelated to Iran-Oman negotiations but is conditional on the US accepting Iran’s conditions.

A US official on Friday reported progress between Iran and Oman that could soon reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s foreign ministry said Wednesday that Iran and Oman were putting the final touches on arrangements for jointly managing the waterway. Officials cited by Iranian media said that any reopening of the strait would depend on the US ending restrictions on Iranian shipping.

In short, Iran is setting the conditions, US must agree. Those conditions would leave Iran in complete control of the waterway. I don't think will be acceptable to Trump.

This could be what Trump is waiting for.

Iran's loss of oil export revenue was not expected to put immediate pressure on Tehran to compromise in negotiations with the United States. "It's pretty clear that the Iranians feel they have the upper hand when it comes to Hormuz, and they are willing to absorb a great deal of economic pain to exploit their advantage.
